Ruvin Ferber graduated from the University of Latvia, Riga, in 1971, where after a post-graduate course he received a PhD(Kandidat) in Physics in 1979 and then joined the staff in the Department of Physics, where he is now a Full Professor. In 1994 he perfected at st. Petersburg State University, where in 1987 he received his Dr. Hab. (Doctor of Science) in Physics. His research interests focus on the theoretical and experimental studies of diatomic molecules, including laser spectroscopy, angular momenta polarization, external field effects, collisions, intramolecular interactions and perturbations. In 1992 he was awarded the ‘Hanle Prize’ by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Marcis Auzinsh graduated from the University of Latvia in 1979 and joined Department of Physics, where he is now a Full Professor, the head of the division of Experimental Physics and the director of the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy. In 1986 he received his PhD from St. Petersburg state University and his Dr.Phys. from the University of Latvia in 1993. Marcis Auzinsh perfected in Beijing University, Peoples Republic of China in 1987-1988, at the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1991 and at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Bielefeld, Germany in 1997. His research interests focus on the theoretical and experimental studies of diatomic molecules, including laser spectroscopy, angular momenta polarization, external field effects, collisions, intramolecular interactions and perturbations. Leading researcher Dr. Hab. Phys. Maris Tamanis

Maris Tamanis graduated from the University
of Latvia, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in 1973 (speciality Optics
and Spectroscopy), then post-graduate doctoral studies at University of
Latvia in 1981 and received his Ph.D. (Candidate of Physical and Mathematical
Sciences, Leningrad State University) in 1983. In 1996 he received Dr.hab.phys.degree
(University of Latvia).
From 1992 M.Tamanis is leading researcher
in ASI. Since graduating the University of Latvia his scientific work was
mostly devoted to experimental studies of magnetic, electric and radiational
properties of diatomic molecules in electronic excited states and ground
states as well. Alkali dimers K2, Na2, NaK and VI
group diatomics Se2, Te2 have been studied. Different
laser spectroscopy, molecule optical polarization and state interference
methods (Hanle effect, quantum beat spectroscopy) were used. Various molecular
characteristics (e.g. Lande factors, electric dipole moments, excited state
lifetimes, L - doubling constants, collisional
relaxation rates) were measured.
M.Tamanis participated a number of
scientific conferences in the former Soviet Union and International Scientific
conferences, among them IV-th European Conference in Atomic and Molecular
Physics (ECAMP 4, Riga, Latvia, 1992), XII International Conference in
Laser Spectroscopy (TWICOLS, Capri, Italy, 1995), XII Symposium-School
in High Resolution Spectroscopy (High Rus-96, St.Petersburg, Russia, 1996
- oral presentation), HCM Network - Workshop (Vulcano, Italy, 1996) etc.
Visited Utrecht University, the Netherlands, December, 1995.
Dr.Tamanis has given selected lectures
for students and have managed them for B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree and was a
supervisor (together with R.Ferber) of Ilze Klincare managed for Ph.D.
He is a member of the Union of Latvian
Scientists. In recognition of his work in area of the Hanle effect was
awarded the Alexander von Humbolt Foundation Hanle Prize in 1992.
