REPORT ON WORKING  AND SOCIAL  ACTIVITIES

Dr. A.Ubelis graduated from the University of Latvia in 1969. He joined the Department  of  Spectroscopic  later Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy and developed  method of flash photolysis and provided research in the fields of photochemistry, atomic physics, spectroscopy and technology of spectral light sources. He has been working at the  University institutions since graduations. Now he is a Head of the Research Department at the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy and researcher on the issues of sustainable development and municipalities. His Lecturer's and students' theses work themes: Photophysics, Photochemistry and Spectroscopy of Polluted Atmosphere; Physics and Climate Change; Sustainable Development.

He was elected deputy of the Riga Municipality (Jan.,1990-May,1994) and the Chairman of the one of six  local Councils of Riga. He has made efforts in environment policy and worked hard to spread the ideas of sustainable development in the Riga City, being a contact person from Riga in the Union of Baltic Cities.

He has been invited to  take part in many expertise works concer-ning physics, air pollution problems, sustainable development and regional planning in municipalities, research, innovation and higher education developments.  During the last 3 years he supervised the Latvian Research Council grant "Atoms and Molecules from Oxygen and Nitrogen Subgroups in the Radiative and Photochemical Processes, and their Role in Polluted Atmosphere" and since 1996 he is leader of the project “EUROTRAC -2 in Latvia” and “Physics and Sustainable technologies”.

Together with colleagues Dr. A.Ubelis has more than 8O published papers and 6 patent certificates. He is the editor of a book on tellurium.
